CHAPTER 6

Alicia yawned and slowly got to her feet. “I am going to bed…” she muttered and turned to walk to her room.

Andrea looked over at Lucas who was staring out the window. “What are you looking for?” she asked him.

“The vampires…they want her,” he spoke softly and sighed. “I had thought before that they wanted her dead…but I believe they want her alive.”

“Alive? Then why kill her mother?”

“They didn’t know her power, when they attacked her and found out her powers it was too late. They had to kill her, and then they decided to wait until Alicia was old enough for her powers to come in.”

“So you are telling me that they want her for her powers. They don’t even know for sure that her powers will be like her mother’s.”

“They are pretty sure…” he spoke softly, hesitantly. “I was forced to tell them what I knew.”

“You what?” Andrea snapped jumping to her feet.

“I had no choice,” he said through gritted teeth, her tone making him feel like a traitor. “Vampires can get anything from you that they want, and just because they turned me didn’t mean they trusted me.”

She glared at him, but her gaze softened as she asked, “what do you mean?”

“They asked me about powers being passed down through bloodlines, I lied and told them that the powers weakened as they were passed down. They didn’t believe me…”

“So they forced you?” Alicia asked from the stairway. Sleep filled her eyes as she looked at both of them.

“Yes…but why aren’t you asleep?” Lucas asked, walking towards her.

“I was asleep, but I started to feel…odd and it woke me up. So the vampires forced you to tell them what exactly?”

He sighed and walked back to the window, looking outside. “That while with some witches, the powers are lessened, with one of Samantha’s powers, the heir would be even more powerful. That is why they chose to wait until you turned twenty.”

“Which is now…” she spoke and she sank onto the stairs. She saw Andrea glance at the clock. “It’s midnight, if they choose to come it will be soon.”

Lucas nodded. “Which is why you need to be in your room, we can protect you much easier in a smaller room than in here.”

Alicia hesitated but then stood slowly. “If they attack I will not sit idle, I’ll do what I can to help.”

“Absolutely no..”

“Don’t even bother Lucas, she is as stubborn as her mother. If you can help without being hurt then fine, but only if you help from afar.”

Alicia rolled her eyes. “Fine.”

“I would prefer her not be in it at all,” Lucas muttered as he watched out the window.

“Well too bad Lucas, this is my life that is being played with.”

He rolled his eyes. “Yeah like I haven’t heard that before.” He kept his attention riveted to the road outside her house. “They are coming.” He stood quickly and turned to Alicia, “I’m sorry, but I’m not letting you endanger yourself.”

Before she could blink he had crossed the room and slammed his fist into her jaw, she felt her body collapse and then strong arms around her.

“Why did you do that?” Andrea snapped.

“Because you are going to get her out of here, no arguments. Look if it was just a few of the weaker vampires I would of let her stay, but the Archer, my master came and brought three of his pets…we wont be able to beat them. Now take her and go!”

Andrea hesitated momentarily before lifting Alicia into her arms and closed her eyes. Lucas blinked as a bright light filled the room and then they were gone. The door slammed open and Lucas turned to find his Master and three of his brothers.

“Well well Lucas, why am I not surprised you chose to help the witch.”

“Witch? What witch?” Lucas asked knowing it would make his Master mad.

His Master backhanded him and Lucas winced. Not much could make him wince anymore, but his Master had more strength than any of the vampires in that room combined. He glanced at the others who were chuckling and he rolled his eyes.

“Where is she?” he growled again.

“I don’t know, she used her powers and took off,” Lucas said carefully.

His Master growled at him. “If you are ever caught helping a witch again you will be killed. I do not care that you were a warlock before, you are a vampire now. Now get out of my sight!”

Lucas nodded and quickly left the room, knowing his Master’s anger was not something to play around with. At least not yet.

Andrea laid Alicia on her bed back at the coven and patted the girls head. “He meant you no harm…” she murmured.

“What happened?” Kay snapped as she stepped into the room.

“Oh nothing big, just a vampire attack,” Andrea said casually which resulted in her hitting the wall behind her as anger radiated off of Kay. Andrea winced and looked at her mother slowly. “Mom…I’m sorry. Look, why don’t we go to the main hall and I will tell you what happened.”

Kay nodded and turned on her heel walking out of the room. Andrea shook her head and bit her lip as she followed her mother.

Kay turned to face Andrea and crossed her arms. “Now what happened?”

“A vampire came to the house right after sunset. You probably know him. Lucas.”

“Lucas? We believe him to have been killed when Samantha was.”

“Well in a way he was. They turned him a few days before Samantha was killed so he couldn’t help her.”

“But why turn a warlock into a vampire? That doesn’t make sense,” Kay spoke slowly, watching around the room to make sure no others had entered. “Is he on our side?”

“As far as I know, he knocked Alicia out so I could get her to safety so I wouldn’t ask her that question.”

Kay nodded silently. “Well if he is on our side then I want him here.”

Alicia nodded. “I will see if I can find him.” She turned and rushed from the room.

Kay watched her daughter run from the room and hoped she was not putting her in danger. She quickly turned her attention to the idea of a vampire warlock. His powers would be strong, but would they be strong enough. She shook her head and walked to her room, nodding her hellos to the other witches she passed. She got to her room, and using her magic she locked the door so no one could enter. Looking at the row of books on the shelf, she waved her hand and three books flew to lay on her bed. She walked to her bed and each book had opened to a page about vampires. She read it quickly, mostly to make sure she had not forgotten any of it. You don’t live for as long as she had and not have read the books. A vampire warlock, it just didn’t seem possible, but if it was she wanted him. The war between witches and vampires would happen soon, the Master vampire was too impatient to wait for much longer. Alicia was more important than she realized, but she would come to that realization soon, she would have to if she wanted to live. She shook her head and shut the books. None of them had the information she wanted. Leaving the books on her bed, she walked back to the great hall waiting.
