The New Me

The New Me

A Poem by therisa

She stood there
Looking at me
Like I was
A diseased animal
To put down
As soon as possible.

Why
Because I dared
To truthful to myself
Letting the weight of past
Slide off of my shoulders
Onto the ground
Where it belongs.

For too long
I have tried to appease
Women like her.

Mistakenly thinking
They would like me
Better than way
Without taking into account
The burden of stress
Upon my body.

Those days are over
For me
As I stride confidently
Into a room
With whom I am
I am Therisa.

And if you
Cannot accept me
As I am
That is your problem
Not mine.
