One More Change

One More Change

A Poem by therisa

I stood out
In front of the restaurant
On the city street
Last night
Not expecting the situation
Which would grip my senses.

As nausea rose
To overpower everything else
As I smelled the aroma
Of beef burgers cooking
From inside.

In the past
My mouth would be
Salivating at the thought
Of holding an Angus burger
In my hands.

Not last night
The opposite was true
Never thought
I would be repulse
By the smell of beef
Having grown up on it.

Could not flee
Fast enough
To escape the foul odour
Floating around
The restaurant’s entrance.

But this is
Just another example
Of the change
In my own diet
Towards becoming
A full time vegetarian.
