A Day Beyond Belief

A Day Beyond Belief

A Poem by therisa

In a few days
An anniversary is
Fast approaching for me
Which I never thought
I would ever see
Regarding the day
I started to write
Poetry.

What started out
As an exercise in boredom
Grew beyond this
To embrace healing
As its’ main goal
While probing
Certain emotions
Became my primary focus.

Wish I could say
My verses are filled
With love and brightness
But that would be lying
To all
Who have read them.

Rather
An eclectic mixture
Of light and dark
Sprinkled with love
And anger
As the emotions
Are moved
By my Muse.

Each new poem is
A step forward
In my long road
Toward unification
Between mind
And body.

Long at war
With each other
As I struggled
To come to lasting terms
With my gender Identity.
