Different Needs

Different Needs

A Poem by therisa

Mom
How do I explain to you
My need for time alone
Away from other people
Even if
My voice sounds
Sad to you.

Being around people
Wears me down
Both emotionally
And physically.

How your unexpected visits
Added to my stress levels
Which at the time
Where already very high
While dealing with issues
Surrounding my gender identity.

It is not that
I hate you mom
Rather I need
My own personal
And private space
When handling
Life changing events
In my own life.

Maybe now
After a time apart
We can start over
Realizing
We both have
Our own needs
And how
We deal with them.
