Sorry Old Girl

Sorry Old Girl

A Poem by therisa

Dear Holy Mother of All
Please forgive us
Mere mortals for the harm
We have done to You
Gaea.

In our ignorance
And haste to embrace
The “good life”.

Not thinking
Of the possible consequences
Our actions will have
Upon Your sacred body
Which we live upon.

Believing progress means
Advancement at all cost
Sacrificing everything
For that temporary moment
Of euphoric joy
In owning
The latest technical advancement.

While Your veins
Flow with toxins
Spewing from the factories
Building our latest toys
Or power plant
Used to supply power
To these factories.

At what point
Does Your body collapse
From the centuries of abuse
Inflicted by humanity?

We can only hope
That date is never reached
But that is continuing
To live our lives
In denial
Of the reality
Around us.
