Aging Before My Time

Aging Before My Time

A Poem by therisa

A radical change
Lies ahead of me
As I struggle to deal
With swollen painful hands.

Scared my life
As I know it
Is about to be
Radically altered.

Facing new restrictions
And medications
To ease my discomfort
In both hands.

Knowing I have
Least arthritis
In my knuckle joints.

Possibly
Forced to deal
With the debilitating condition
Of carpal tunnel syndrome
In both hands.

Have seen my mom
Struggle with this
For years
Even after two surgeries
On her hands.

Sigh
Feels like
My body is betraying me
And there is nothing
I can do
To stop it.

Ouch! A very painful situation to be in. I know two people with arthritus in their hands. One of which has good range and use of her hands, she still paints, rides ponies etc. Unfortunately the other isn't as positive, she still has a great life and doesn't let it hold her back though!
Good luck, hope it all works out for you.
