This Is, Not Me

This Is, Not Me

A Story by therisa

I do not understand
Why some people
Call me
Strong and courageous.

For I am
Not the first person
Who was bullied at school
Or abused at home
By a family member.

Or why you make
A huge deal of the fact
I never turned to drugs
Or alcohol
To take away my pain.

Choosing instead
To lock away my memories
Hoping they would disappear
With the passage of time.

Realizing now
This is just as dangerous
As pill popping
Or binge drinking
For my health.

So
Why label me
When I am struggling to survive
For there are others
Whom deserve this label
Better than I do.
