Just Part Of Whom I Am

Just Part Of Whom I Am

A Poem by therisa

Please do not take offend
Should I reject
Your various offers of attention
When my voice sounds
Sad to you.

But
You do not understand
My own need for time alone
After a busy day
Being around other people.

Draining me
Totally
On a physical
And emotional level.

Leaving behind
A dried out and brittle husk
Disintegrating
At the slightest pressure
When applied.

Please understand
I am almost painfully
A total introvert
By nature.

My silence does not mean
I am aloft or self-absurd
By withdrawing
From those
Around me.

Rather
Just practicing
The only mean known to me
In keeping myself
Sane.
