Sad Day For Cooking

Betrayed
Is how I feel
As the news sinks in
About my elevated
Potassium levels.

Doing everything possible
Following a healthy diet
Yet it still happens.

Avoiding the obvious foods
Like Potatoes Bananas
And Kiwi fruits
Not realizing
Honeydew and Cantaloupe Melons
Are part of the list too.

Gone are
My Chick Peas
And various other legumes

Which make a stew
So appeasing
To one’s taste buds.

Sigh
All the excitement
Is gone from cooking.

Might as well
Be eating gruel
Every day
Now.

Orginally written November 9, 2010. My diet has since return to normal, as I was taken off the medication, which caused my body to retain elevated levels of Potassium. Harmful to the normal function of a Diabetic's kidneys.
