Father And Daughter

Father And Daughter

A Poem by therisa

Parents say
They don’t favour
One child over another.

Yet
They think
Us kids don’t see
Their little white lie
Being told
To us.

Know I wasn’t
Your favourite child
Dad
M was.

How he shared
Your love
For being hands-on
Tinkering around with tools.

Placing you
Upon a pedestal
So high
He worshipped the ground
You walked upon.

To me
You’re just my dad
A man who love
To talk about history
And politics
With me.

Am sorry
You never got to see
Your daughter
Before your death
Dad.

You were
So proud of me
For getting my BA
From Carleton University.

Only hope
Your spirit is
Looking down
And guiding me
Like you did
So long ago.
