Modern Day Cinderella

Modern Day Cinderella

A Poem by therisa

Another Saturday morning
Has awaken to greet me
Yet I feel the urge to roll over
In my bed and go back to sleep.

As the dreams of last night
Play in my mind
Of perfectly tailored dresses
And expensive Italian leather shoes.

Treated by one and all
As the faerie tale princess
On her way
To the Royal Ball.

Where I dance
With my Princess Charming
Whom sweeps me
Off my feet.

Unlike Cinderella
There are no step-sisters
Or cruel step-mom
Waiting for me.

As the bell chimes twelve
I rush to wake up
Before the dream ends
In a nightmare.

To the sound
Of Her royal servants
Knocking on
My front door.

Presenting
On a purple crush velvet cushion
An expensive leather shoe
Like the one I owe.

Oh this cannot be real
Such things only happen
In faeries tales
Told to amuse kids.

Please let this true
My wildest dream
Is really
A reality to me.

Accepting the offered shoe
As if manna from the Goddess
From up high above
In my trebling hands.

Scared
It will disappear
When I blink my eyes
For a second.

Gingerly
Placing the shoe
Before my left foot
As I step into it.

Hearing a gasp
As my foot fits perfectly
From the Royal attendant
As she hastily bows to me.

“Ma’am
The Royal Princess await
Your appearance
This afternoon”.

Before I heard
A cellphone being answered
In the background
Confirming the shoe fitting.

As several more attendants
Rushed forward
Gathering some clothes
Along with myself.

Taking me
To meet
My Princess Charming
In Her palace.

And who said
Faeries tales are dead
Not I
That’s for sure.

you're welcome. :)
An interesting spin on the Cinderella tale.

NOTES: I think you should give this another editorial pass for corrections. For example, in the line "Whom sweeps me," it should be "Who…"

In a fairy tale setting, you express very well the desires and doubts that many of us have experienced when we wanted something so badly. There are a few small errors, ie "grasp" instead of "gasp", etc, but you could easily iron those out.
