A cold bitter wind
Swirled around her Biting through The layers of clothing She dressed herself in Earlier that morning. Her thoughts cast adrift In a violent maelstrom Of conflicting thought Reflecting the weather Which she was Walking through. Her heart rent apart By the callous words Spoke over the phone By a close love one To her. Adding another layer To the already heavy burdens She carried upon her shoulders Unsure of the direction Which life was taking her. Except around Every street corner More and more misery Seem to be The only answer. Driving her Further and further Into a downward spiral Of depression. Only wanting The pain to end But not sure how She could it Without doing something Drastic to herself. As she found herself Staring out Over a highway overpass During rush hour traffic. Part of her Just wanted to End it all Hell to the consequence They would not concern her Since she would dead Soon anyways. Yet there Still exist a part Which was silently Pleading with her “No there is a better way Than this”. As she started to climb up The protective barrier When she noticed A car pulled over By her. Two people got out Started walking Towards her direction As her resolution grew weaker She broke down Into tears. Sitting down Upon the frozen curbside Her head buried Into her shivering hands Sobs escaping Into the frigid air. A gentle arm embraced Around her shoulders With a warm blanket While telling her “Everything is going to okay Now ma’am”. First kind words Spoken to her In months. Further breaking down The emotional barrier Which she has hidden herself For longer than She can remember. They stayed with her Until the police And the EMS team Arrive at the site. A random act of kindness By total strangers Which that day Saved a life. © 2011 therisaAuthor's Note
