Cast Adrift

Cast Adrift

A Poem by therisa

I stand on the scales
In my diabetic nurse’s office
Dreading the digital reading
Before me.

Like a young child
Called into the Principal's office
Not knowing why
She was sent.

Quick glance downwards
As the decisive moment
Whether or not
I have met my goal.

As I drift
Further away
On the sea of self-hatred
No shore in sight.

No hope of ever seeing
That elusive place
Of inner peace
By me.
