Skewed Values

Skewed Values

A Poem by therisa

A slate grey sky
Covered the land
Blanketed by
A thick coat of white snow
Fleshly fallen
Over the past two days.

Hiding the sins
Which humanity has inflicted
Upon the land
In the name of progress.

Caring not
About the wide spread
Of a denuded land
Whose trees have been
Removed to raise live stock
At a cheaper price.

Or the spreading deserts
Which once were
Tropical rain forests
Visible from outer space.

Except for the profits
Which are raking up
The corporation’s profit sheet
While the shareholders focus
On their short term gain.

Paying lip service
To the environment
They say
Is important
But refusing to change
Their old investing habits.

Believing
Money can fix anything
Except time is running out
And money cannot buy that.

No matter
How much money
Is thrown at this problem
By corporations
And governments.

So this is
What we call progress
A planet laid to waste
For the all mighty dollar
Pity.
