Within my mind
The West Side Story soundtrack
Plays continuously
Missing the occasional beat
Like a well played piece
Of old vinyl
Whose grooves
Are wearing away.

Imagining myself
As Maria
Singing about the rapture
Of meeting
The most heavenly person
On earth.

Ignorant
Of the realities
Which stand between us
Choosing to following my heart
Instead of my brain.

Caring not
About the heartbreak
Which awaits me
Should I falter.

Only the love
Will last forever
In my heart.

What more
Can a girl
Want from life
Beyond this?

Except to grow old
With my one
And true lover.

Thank you, Tia. West Side Story is my favourite musical, as a child, I would hums it's songs to myself. Loved the song, America, with it's sarcastic tone and lyrics. I know, the old stereotype of a boy, who likes musicals, is gay. Guess they were right, but wrong about the gender of my partner. So do I.
