A Giant ShadowA Poem by therisa
I sat
Huddled in my bed As the radio announces Today is Martin Luther King Day In the United States. A man taken Before I was even born Whose long shadows Cast over All of us. Inspiring People to think Outside of the box Beyond our own rights To the rights of all. To discriminate Against one person Is to discriminate Against all people Period. I have seen Discrimination In my own lifetime Because Of my gender issue. Yet Refuse to let it Eat me up Turning my love Into hate. Unlike Rev. King I have not been To the “mountain top” Unable to see This promised land. Where everyone’s gender orientation Is accepted at face value No questions needed Nor be asked Of anyone. © 2011 therisa |
