Who We Are

Who We Are

A Chapter by therisa

We have
All seen pictures of ourselves
Wearing our parents’ clothes or shoes.

Yet
For some of us
This desire goes deeper
Into an uncontrollable need
Dominating our lives.

Realizing
At a very young age
We are different
From the other kids.

For we are
Forever trapped
In the wrong gendered body.

Transitioning isn’t
Merely a simple matter
Of injecting ourselves
Or swallowing hormones
To physically change our bodies
Until they match
Our mental image.

Rather
Of life or death
For too many kids
Attempt suicide
Before their twentieth birthday
Often with tragic results

For we are
Your daughters and sons
Whom feels your scorn
Of your physical
And emotional abuse
For being honest
With you.

For too many of us
There is no second chance
To right a wrong
And accept us
For whom we
Really are
Human beings.

This is good but I feel like it can have more emotion and imagery...show don't tell.
The second to last stanza is really good.

Its good to read you again even if the writing is serious. We all have our issues - and the writing can be both cathartic and an affirmation for others who share the same issues.
Peace.
