My Christmas Wish

My Christmas Wish

A Poem by therisa

Oh how I wish
Just once
That my wishes
Could come true.

Not asking
For anything big
Or special.

Rather
Just a small request
When one stops
And thinks about it.

A world
Which embraces
And accepts all differences
Between various people
Of different gender
Orientation.

Ending
The need for hate laws
Upon our legal rolls.

All transgendered people
Can feel totally free
To express
Their true inner self
Without risking
Their lives.

Or be beaten up
For openly vocalizing
Their desires and need
To transition.

Sadly
Looking back
I realize
This is asking too much
From most people.

Pity.

I disagree with your last paragraph, my friend. Baby steps....baby steps. Look at what Martin Luther King's dream was here in the United States fifty-plus years ago, and even though it is not exactly to fruition of his dream, we presently have an African-American as President; therefore, showing change and most of all acceptance can occur. And how appropriate that I read this on the weekend celebrating his birthday here in the States. I absolute love how this poem can make people really think about their actions and views regarding their fellow human. Bravo!
