None Is, Too Many

None Is, Too Many

A Chapter by therisa
"

Marking the 70th anniversary of Auschwitz Concentration Camp liberation, by Soviet troops, on January 27, 1945.

"
Every year
We say
"Never again".

As Tuesday
January 27, 2015
Marks the seventieth anniversary
Of Auschwitz Concentration Camp
Being liberated
By Soviet troops
In Poland.

And yet
It has happened
Again.

As another holocaust
With a small "h"
Has occurred.

Opposed to
The one
With a capital "H"
Holocaust .

Experienced
By Europe's
Jewish community
During World War II.

Once more
The warning signs
Are flashing
Before our eyes
Shall we heed them.

Of a growing criminalization
By various national governments
With their isolating
And marginalization policies
Towards the LGBT+ community.

Brutal
But effective tactics
The Nazi used
Against those
They had targeted.

Which
Ironically
They had selected
The LGBT+ community
As one of the degenerative elements
For Germany's failures
And loose morals.

A fact
Most people are
Ignorant of.

But
No more.

With this simple poem
I am making
My stand
For the world
To see and read.

Refusing to allow
Another holocaust
To go unreported.

While
My community dies
In silent shame
From the "West's" inaction
Like the Jews did
Under Hitler.

I will stand with you and all. There have been too many deaths already.

Therisa, there are many dark moments in the history of this angry world and I am sure there will be many more. It is sad, so sad the way one human being (and I use the term loosely) can treat another human being. I have heard that kindness is contagious, the problem is, there is not enough of it to creat an epidemic. Hopefully someday it will come.

Thank you for posting this poem. I am actually teaching a unit on Holocaust. Would you mind if I share your poem with my students? Of course with credits due. I want them to see the truth behind the phrase: older but not wiser.

the comparison's are very strong and we all should see where dislike of you or I becomes persecution and eventually death, this world needs to make a consciousness shift, one day maybe this will be so until then its left to the few to try to wake the many and hope they will come to understand, stirring writing Therisa invoking much emotion :)

It seems humanity will always watch some "other" persecuted. Persecution is the ultimate judgmentalism -- it's the reason why people should start with NIV Luke 6:37 "Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven." Whatever your beliefs, that stricture above reproach. Imagine the peaceful world we'd live in if everyone embraced that stricture? No person has the right to judge any other person's life and/or value.

Well this couldn't be any more relevant to, today's situations. We have police in musks and police in jewish synagogue because of fear of retaliation by those who think that in that way they would express their sentiments about the unfoldings elswhere. The ideological persecuion? Still persists -- The narrow minded sectarinism still alive, the decadence of thought that one group of human beings would and could be more than others still trying to prevail. The issue of refugees even more that a sensitive topic as so many do the journey from Syria to Italy and the fragment of history you allude to in this writing and all its emotions continues...

Great topic!

Thank you.
