Wake-up Call

Wake-up Call

A Chapter by therisa
"

An expanded and edited version, of my poetic response, to Willweb's poem, "Rude awakening". http://www.writerscafe.org/writing/Willweb/1466804/

"
When you're starvin'
Anything will do
To quieten
That roarin' engine
Within.

As you wait
In ever longer queues
Shuffling your feet
Trying to keep warm.

The wind chill whips
Through your clothing
Like you're nude.

Even though
You know
It'll leave you
With hunger pains
For more
Afterwards.

Never fully satisfy
With what
You're given
With your only meal
That day.

As others move
Through life
In blissful ignorance
To your flight.
