A Quiet Genocide?

A Quiet Genocide?

Genocide.

A word
Am finding myself
Struggling to accept
In the crimes
Against the transcommunity
Here.

In using
A definition
Almost 70 years old
That doesn't account
For the emergence
Of the LGBT community
From our closet
Of shame.

For I think
Of the ethnic massacres
From the last century
Against selected ethnicities
Like Jews, Hutus
And Armenians.

As a transsexual
I have experienced
Several situations
Which I felt
My life threaten
By the actions
Of others.

Forcing me
To flee
In the greater Toronto area
During the past 8 years.

Although
Elsewhere
This term gains
More traction.

When one looks
At the government organized
Level of violence and death
Happening
In Russia or Uganda.

Where
Being open
About your true self.

Is like signing
A death warrant.

For anyone
To attack
And kill you
Under these regimes.

Bringing back
Horrific images
Of Nazi Germany
And their brutal campaign
Against ethnic minorities.

Never mind
The LGBT+ community
Was one of their targets
As well.

Wish
I could provide
Hard data
To share.

But
No one keeps
Such information
Anywhere.

As more deaths
Are publically reported
Of transpeople dying
Through social
And traditional medias.
.
Whether
By their hands
Or murdered
By others.

Although
I do feel comfortable
In saying
Crimes against humanity
Is and has occurred
To my community.

Author's Note

therisa
Given, the current definition, for genocide, I can't accept, the argument for a global genocide against the transcommunity, but in certain regions, I would use this label, without any hesitation, on my part. I have included, a link to the official definition of genocide, about. Along with The Current segment that spark this poem and Russia's latest attempt to isolate its transcommunity.

Thank you Therisa for an enlightening view of the transcommunity (interesting that my spell checker informs me that word does not exist) another form of restriction of information i guess, continue with your good work to make people understand and accept not reject :)

Your welcome, Richard. Am not surprised that your spell check doesn't include, transcommunity.
