Oh

My aching head
What was I
Thinking.

When I open'd
That fresh pack
Of black ink pens.

Losing myself
In the hurried

Scratch marks
Of the pen nib
Across the blank page.

As if
I could write
Something
Which would make
Ms Dickinson.

Turn a lovely shade

Of  green
With poetic envy.

Alas
My flight of fantasy
Has left me
With a blank memory
Instead.

Therisa, it seems some of your best comes from reading other poets. As goals go, trying to out write Emily Dickinson is quite an aspiraton… I wish you well in that. Frankly, it's beyond me! :D

You're own imaginings are you only intellectual limitations. You may never master her style -- but why would you want to? Your own style may someday stand comparable to hers. Never limit your intellectual striving… never give up your artistic originality.

hopefully we don't run out of ink before we run out of ideas...yes, trying to outdo emily...that would be overwhelming....she was so amazing...the best in my book.

Yes, Jacob, your poem inspired this. There are other poetic responses to your poems, here, as well. Just have to dig them out. Don't think that will be a problem, as I have a couple unopened packs of pens, in a night table drawer. As for Ms Dickinson, it felt right, to mention her, in the poem. Couldn't think, of any other female poet, to place here.
