Double Jeopardy

Double Jeopardy

A Chapter by therisa
"

The discrimination faced by those, who suffer, with mental illness.

"
Don't understand
Why society feels
This need to
Stigmatize people
Due to
Mental illness.

Politicians
Of all stripes
Promise increase funding
And yet
It's the first area
To be chopped.

As the bean counters figure
No one will notice this
Until the police execute
An mentally ill person
In a hail of bullets.

Even than
More promises are made
With little concrete action
For some future date
Nothing more than
A small bandage
Over a gaping chest wound.

Else
Treated like
A criminal
At the Canada-US border
By denying us.

Entry
Into the United States
Because someone dialed "911".

As a first responder
Police write up
A report
Stating the nature
Of the call.

Responding to
A suicide attempt.

Who forward it
To the RCMP
In Ottawa
Before sharing it
With Homelands Security.

Turning
a medical matter
Into a criminal issues
Which need not be.

Will this scaremongering madness never end. And of course it'll become policy in the whole of the Western world before long too. Another step to Orwellian society.
