Not Another Christmas Poem

Not Another Christmas Poem

A Chapter by therisa
"

Remembering those forgotten, during the holiday season.

"
It's Christmastime
And the line-ups
Are three deep
Snaking throughout
The store.

And yet
A sense of emptiness
Prevails
Among us.

As if
We have sold
Our souls
For base trinkets.

Soon discarded
When the shine has
Worn off.

Ignoring those
Whose needs
Are unmet
For various reasons.

Except
When shamed
By others.

Believing
A donated can
Or two
To the food bank.

Will appease
Our conscience
Until next time.

While scorning
The physical element
In most needing of
Re-inforcing.

By giving
The precious
Of all gifts.

A person can give
To another:

Their time
Compassion
And hope.

Bringing light
In what
Has become
A season of darkness
And despair
For too many.

True, Momzilla, but something that society needs to, be reminded of. And thanks for the correction.

yw :)
I was drawn to this write because I have to admit, I am quite disenchanted with this season. There are so many flaunting their jolly festivities when there are hurting and needing people around. What of those hearts who are mourning, lost, empty... This might be the best poem I have read this holiday... Call me the grinch but I guess that shoe would fit. Thank you for sharing this one.
