As society's dregs.

We are

Your brothers

And sisters

Who've been abandoned

By you

For various reasons.

While hearing

All the right words

Supporting our cause

For more shelters.

Until

NIMBY raises

Its ugly head

Screaming

Bloody blue murder

In protest.

Stating

Various marginal reasons

For their opposition

Beyond the optics

Of the stigma

Being built there.

Harassing

The shelter

With phone calls

If people gather

At the front steps.

Just 10 minutes early

Prior to the doors opening

For the evening hours.

As if

We're bringing down

Their condo unit's value

Or robbing them

By our very presence.

When

The shelter was

Built first

In an abandoned

City building.

I hear this. I see this. I understand. Flip side a working lower income single woman berated by people downtown for keeping my money for my kids and me. There is a lack of empathy both sides of the fence.

I understand, the opposition, you're presenting, but there has to be, a happy medium, which all sides, come out, as winners, not this current ghettoizing policy, which exist for most major metro areas. It's time, to end this war, and work on fixing this issue, once and for all.
