Broken Mirror

A Chapter by therisa

Expanded and edited version of my poetic response to, Momzila's poem, "Walking". http://www.writerscafe.org/writing/MomzillaNC/1408780/#comment-3577594

"
For a moment
Cast aside
Into the corrosive
Hall of memories.

Where
I sought
The shadows.

Trying not
To draw
Any attention
Towards myself.

Only to fail
Miserably
Much to my distraught.

Reliving a life
So far away
From my present
Reality.

Almost seem
Like a horror story
Give the kiss
Of life.

Finding myself
Falling ever deeper
Into this quagmire
We call
Childhood.

Of the fists
And boots
Which landed
Like rain
Upon my body.

Nary
A reaction
From anybody.

Except
A lil' talk-to
And a tiny slap
Upon the wrists
From the authorities.

Finding refuge
By transferring away
To another high school
Down the road.

Where
No one knows me
Or cares
About my abusive past.

Just seeing me
As another student
Struggling to
Make the grade
And move on.

While offering
A gentle shoulder
To cry upon.

Should it
Be needed.
