Lost In The JungleA Chapter by therisaJust some thoughts, sparked by, the Sydney hostage crisis. Is abuse And violence The norm For all relationships? A question I ask With some timidity. Scared Of the answer I'll receive Back. Having endured More than my share Of such relationships In my lifetime. Is humanity Nothing more than A brutal creature Under a thin banal Layer of "civilization". In justifying Our acts of rage And destruction To ourselves And others. By taking "Lord of the jungle" mythos To its ultimate And extreme conclusion. In killing off Anything or anyone That challenges This believe. As more reports arise Of abusive conduct By people In a position Of power. From those Who have escaped From their tormentors At a steep price. Paid By their souls And traumatic memories Of these occurrences Being replayed In their minds. I want To say "No". Humanity has grown Beyond these base impulses Which have labeled us Nothing more than Egoistical animals In nature. But My experiences say "Yes". Meaning We haven't leave The primeval forest Like we think.
