Ending Of An Era

Ending Of An Era

A Poem by therisa
"

A tribute to Jean Béliveau (1931-2014)

"
One by one
The legendary players
Are leaving us
For another playing field.

Men
Who transcended sports
Bridging the gap
Between politics
Religion languages
And cultural differences.

Becoming a symbol
Of honour
And grace
To embrace.

Displaying
A regal dignity
Towards the fans
And the uniform
They wore.

A generation
Never to be seen
Ever again.

Leaving us
All the poorer
For this.

Good-bye Jean.
