Just The Numbers

Just The Numbers

A Poem by therisa
"

How my doctor doesn't seem to listen, to me, when I try to explain, how my mental health is affecting my overall health.

"
You talk
About a culture
Of healing
And compassion.

But
In reality
Delivering something else
To your patients.

Turning
An indifferent ear
When I explain
My struggle
With mental health.

Focusing
Your eagle eyes
On the computer screen
And the latest lab results.

Explaining
The latest changes
To my drug cocktail
Before dismissing me.

Until
The next appointment
And blood work.

Author's Note

therisa
I'm a pre-Insulin diabetic, with serious mental health problems, which majorly impacts my overall health. Sadly, my doctor, only focuses upon the lab results, of my blood work, instead of taking into consideration, how my mental health impacts it. A fact, I noted to my dietetic nurse, during my last appointment with her, in November, which she agreed with me. Like the mentality of prescribe more drugs, is the top priority, in treating a patient's health concern, and not finding less toxic means, which doctors don't get paid, but should.
