Childhood Memories

Childhood Memories

A Chapter by therisa

You thought
The house was empty
When you have
Your big arguments.

But
You're wrong
I was there
Hearing them
As a child.

Even now
Almost four decades later
These memories are
Still fresh
To me.

While
I have forgotten
The words.

The emotions are
Remembered
If they were recorded
Digitally.

Finding mom
Crying
Over the sink
After dad left.

Her rejecting
My offer of help.

Holding myself
Responsible.

As if
Somehow
I caused these arguments.

Cursing
My long term memory
While I struggle
With the short term.

Leaving holes
In my daily life.
