Reading The Signposts

A Poem by therisa

Peace and quiet.

An inner moment
Where my soul rests
Beyond the reach
Of every day life.

Allowing me
The needed time
To be gentle
And compassionate
Towards myself.

In a world
That's indifferent
To my personal needs
Or wants.

Withdrawing
Into this private space
After a frenzied week
Of facing life's
Chaotic pace.

Healing
The micro tears
To my body and soul
Before they grow
Any worse.

Something
In the past
I would ignore
Until too late.

Burning myself
To the core.

As my body
And soul collapse
Into a stupor of death
Where none
Could touch me.

Including
Myself.

A harsh lesson
I don't want to learn
Over again.

Author's Note

therisa
By nature, I'm an introvert, which means being around people, drains me, on a mental and physical level that extroverts don't understand. Added upon this, I am a survivor of physical and psychological abuse, during most of my life, which I find myself, being hyper-vigilant, even though, the last episode of abuse, happened several years, ago.

Some lessons are harder than others Therisa, especially when there are many obstacles sitting in our way...but learning is the key word...if we learn from those lessons, even anything at all, then we will be walking the right path to the future.

Sad, but true, Will. Thank you, for your compassionate words, to me, Will.
