Canada's Shame

Canada's Shame

A Poem by therisa
"

Another death to add to Canada's missing or murdered First Nations' women.

"
Across the land
From the Atlantic
To the Pacific
And the Arctic Ocean
A bitter stream of tears
Spread out.

Leaving Canada's First Nations
In mourning and sorrow
Over their missing
And murdered women
Spanning decades.

Once more
They have gathered
To bury
One of their own
A fifteen year old girl.

Murdered
In Winnipeg.

Adding another name
On the long list
Of about twelve hundred
Missing or murdered women.

At what point
Does the Government of Canada
Take responsibility
And acts appropriately?

Another death is
One too many
When we have blood
On our hands
Already.
