The Border

The Border

A Poem by therisa

You can't see it
A line drawn
In the sand
And upon maps
But it exists.

Many have died
Trying to defend it
Or to crossover
For a better life.

Physically
The distance is short
Measured in millimeters
But mentally
It stretches
Forever.

Especially
When one approaches
The gender divide.

Making the move
Which forever
Changes one's life
In ways
Never thought of.

And
Not always
In the positive.

A journey
One explores themself
Down to
Their very core
Of existence.

As they are
Forced to face
A new reality
Where everything is
Different.
