Opening Up

Opening Up

A Poem by therisa
"

To trust without suspicion.

"
Can feel it
Buried deep
Inside my soul
Like lost pirate treasure
Waiting to be found
By you.

A force
Long suppressed
For more years
Than I can remember.

As a way
Of protecting myself
From the abuse and hate
Which marked
My daily life.

And yet
Am afraid
Of letting it go
To fly free
Where the eagle soar
Across the horizon.

Scared
I'll experience
Such a crippling pain
My soul will be harmed
Beyond recognition.

Only
The coroners will know
That this burnt up remains
Was once
My soul.

But
To grow
I need to
Release it
Once and forever.

Taking that chance
Others do
On a daily basis.

I can definitely relate to this poem. I'm afraid of letting those close to me further in because I am afraid they will only end up hurting me. Vulnerability is such a powerful attribute that a person can have, and I hope that one day I can master it.

Thank you, Angel. I hope, you find it, within yourself, too.
