Early Winter Blues

Early Winter Blues

A Poem by therisa

I thought
Hallowe'en was over
Last night.

As I awoke
To the frightening sight
Of wet snow falling
Outside my apartment
This morning.

Someone wanting
To play a nasty trick
With this volatile weather
Of the past week.

Forcing me
To dig through the closet
Looking for my winter gear
Put away last spring.

A lot sooner
Than I wanted
This month.

Trying to avoid
An early start
To this year's
Cold/flu season.

In the vain hope
Of avoiding
The doctor's office
Filled with sick people.

Seeking the treat
Of the magical elixir
To cure their illnesses.

While
I quiver
In outright fright
At this horror filled
Prospect.

Wanting to hibernate
Until the spring flowers
Cover the land
In their glorious blooms.

Knowing
Another winter season
Is over
Once more.
