The Right To Be, Like Everyone Else

The Right To Be, Like Everyone Else

A Poem by therisa
"

My reactions to Pat Robertson's comments, on same sex marriages.

"
Mr Robertson
I don't understand
Why my wanting to legalize
My partner and I
Love for each other
Should be viewed
As a divisive issue.

The world hasn't ended
Since Canada and other countries
Have legalized same sex marriages.

Rather
The opposite is
Quite true.

Mr Robertson
Guess I thought wrong
When I believed
Christianity is
About love and forgiveness.

Wanting to celebrate
My true love
Isn't an act of terror
As you refer to.

But
An acknowledgement
Of society's diverse nature
With its various minority communities
Which compose it.

And yes
I agree with you
No one should be forced
To do something
They feel morally oppose to.

This opposition doesn't mean
My exchanging of rings
With my wife.

Is any less valid
Than the love
Between a man
And a woman.

Author's Note

therisa
Everyday, I'm grateful, for being a resident of Canada, and its acceptance of same sex marriages. Although, currently single, I do dream of walking down the aisle, with my future partner, to the tune of the wedding march.
