Dissociating

Dissociating

A Poem by therisa
"

What it can feel like.

"
Disjointed words
Garbled speech
Ideas unexplored
Lost in space
And time.

Finding oneself
In a place
Unable to explain
How.

Panic
Of the worse form
Rational thought
Distant concept
As confusion replaces
Understanding.

Wandering around
Aimlessly
Without a clue.

Worse
When it occurs
In a public spot
For all
To witness.

Author's Note

therisa
As a trauma and abuse survivor, I tend to dissociate, during times of extreme stress, as a means of protecting myself. But, it can, also happen, during everyday life, like walking down an aisle, in the supermarket.
