Optical illusion

War fought and won

Through the legal

And political systems.

 

Discrimination

Although illegal

Is fact of life

With a bitter smile.

 

Ghettoization

By fear

And economic needs

Just out of sight.

 

Children are cannibalized

Without a second thought

Mental health system

Drowning in numbers.

 

Hope

A caustic pill

Things will get better.

The mental health issues that receive no funding leaving cannibalized children and poverty in its wake is a shameful reality. It's funny how so many people believe in god, a being they can't see but don't really believe in mental illness because they can't see the physiological aspects of it. You can't put it in a cast and usually you can't operate on it. Me...I blame Ronald Reagan for this downfall in the United States. I will never understand why people think he was a great president.

Icelandicblue, I think people believe in God, for it offers, a sense of hope that things will get better, and they'll be rewarded for their struggles, on this mortal coil. Same like Reagan did, during the Iran Hostage Crisis. Personally, I felt he was a puppet, which the Military-Industrial Complex used to pad their wallets.

Reagan closed most of the mental health facilities and most of those people ended up on the streets.

Icelandicblue, you can't fully blame Reagan, as there was a push from the community to stop the warehousing of those, who suffered from mental illness and developmental disabilities. Personally, in the past, I would have been placed, in an institution, for my own mental illness, given my long history of suicide attempts.

Thank you, Tammy. While I was writing this, events in Ferguson, Mo were unfolding, and I thought about the struggle, many transpeople are still facing, in Canada.
