A Fan's Lament

A Fan's Lament

A Poem by therisa
"

Tears of a Toronto Blue Jays fan.

"
Another year
Promises unfulfilled
Dreams broken
Totalling twenty-one.

Since
Breathing in
The rarefied airs
Of the "Promise land"
World Series champions.

Natives are restless
Demanding more
Receiving less
Vague assurances
Next year
Is ours.

Faint hope
Nothing more
Slipping away
With every lost
Only twelve games left.

Emperor exposed
System is bare
Long winter ahead
Rebuilding hope
For spring training.
