God Complex

God Complex

A Poem by therisa
"

A conditions, doctors develop, once they have left med school.

"
So sick and tired
Of being told
To suck it up
By patronizing doctors
When taking anti-depressants.

As if
At first sign
Of any discomfort
Will demand a stop
For that particular drug.

When the truth is
The polar opposite
In placing
My quality of life
And direct health
First.

What good
Is an anti-depressant
If you're bed bounded
For several days
With a migraine headache
Because the drug made you
More sensitive to them?

Or you need
To take other meds
Just to counter The side-effects
Of the anti-depressant
On the lowest dose.

Else
Interacts with other meds
For which
No other alternative exist
I can take.

As I am
On these meds
For the rest of my life.

Just once
I want to see
A doctor
Who has lived
Through my experiences
And understands
My challenges.

As I struggle
To find equilibrium.

Author's Note

Before I started Sertraline, on May 5th, my nurse practitioner shared with me, the note that a shrink had written to my doctor. Let's just say, it wasn't very flattering of me.
