Migraines: The Ultimate Headache

Migraines: The Ultimate Headache

A Poem by therisa
"

What my current migraine headache feels like.

"
Can feel you
Like a jackhammer
Pounding against
My middle eye
Non-stop.

As another wave
Of nausea washes
Over me.

The slightest noise
Is a red hot poker
Pressed against my head
Amping up my pain
To unbearable levels.

Quiet bitter stream
Leaks from the eyes
Staining my face
With shame.

Flinching
At any direct
or bright light
That is shone
Into my eyes.

Forced
Into the shadows
Of indirect or no light.

Want to scream
"Silence" to the world
But know
It's an act of futility
So don't.

Instead
I wonder
Would a "cone of silence"
Work better.

Creating a dead zone
Which no sounds penetrates
For a radius of 20 meters
Around me
Until it's over.

Praying for
A merciful release
After 2 days.

But realize
It may take
A week or longer
Before disappearing.

Lucky me.

Monday (March 17th), about 3 pm, I left my latest migraine headache, explode upon me. This is my second such headache, since I have stopped taking Cymbalta, almost 18 months ago. While taking Cymbalta, migraines were, a regular occurs, lasting from 2 to 10 days. No medicine could relieve my pain, except to let it, run it's course.

I've had severe migraines, not had one this year, touch wood...the most horrible feelings, so I can relate. You described it well xx

Thank you, Tia, only wish I didn't have experience to draw upon, when writing this.
Flinching reading this, I have a headache, not a migraine thankfully. Big ouch...those things are really killers, my mother-in-law used to hide in the closest they got so bad, she couldn't stand the light, then one day they just suddenly stopped. Hope you fin a recourse and relief from this dilemma.
