A Square Peg, In A Round WorldA Poem by therisaSome of the pressures, I face, as a transperson.A world Of black and white Where everything fits Into neat little boxes Without any ambiguity Like Boolean algebra. Except The reality You and I live in This type of logic Never exists. For nothing is Neither pure white Nor pure black. Rather A spectrum of grays Blurring the line Between black and white In our world. Just your refusal In acknowledging This possibility Creates ambiguity Between us. Driving a wedge Where none Should be found. And yet One does. As my frustration Boils over At your inflexibility To adapt and accept The world is changing As we breathe. What was right For yesterday Is wrong For today. Am I asking Too much From society To accept me As I am? Someone Who fits outside Of the conventional boxes Which everyone else Stands in. © 2013 therisaAuthor's Note
