a Rude Awakening

Am shedding tears.

I thought

This type of stupidity

Was behind us

As Canadians.

As we move forward

By embracing diversity

In all of it's glorious forms

Whether its spiritual political

Gender or sexual orientation.

But

I was wrong

Silly me

With my naivete.

As a local TV newscast

Reports of a hate letter

Promising violence

Against Pride

And Ontario's Premier

Kathleen Wynne.

Canada's first

Openly gay/lesbian

Government leader.

For 33 years

Pride has been

A symbol of peace

And integration

Until now.

It angers me

That some people

Feel the need

To lash out against those

Whom they fear

Or do not understand.

The reality is

Most members

Of the LGBT community

Want to live their lives

In peace.

Just like you

Kissing their spouses

Goodbye every morning

And tucking in their children

At bedtime.

this is an aside but I got a jolt - Kathleen Wynne - my husband's family were Wynne's from Canada, Lambert and Kincardine I believe.
It is sad that hate crimes are happening.

Well, Tammy, if you shaked all American family trees, you'll find a Canadian branch or two. :) I think there will be hate crimes, as long as a person feels a position of power, by hurting others.
