A Step Forward

Same-sex marriages is not the end, but a move forward.

Hard to believe

Only a decade ago

It was illegal

For a same-sex marriage

In Ontario.

Forget

The rest

Of North America.

In the following years

Most Canadians embraced

Marital diversity

As part of everyday society.

Realizing love

Is not limited

Only to heterosexual couple

Whether legally married

Or living common-law.

But

Exists for Gay

And Lesbian partners

As well.

With the rights

And entitlements

Conveyed to all couples.

And yes

Like heterosexual couples

Many same-sex marriages

Will end in divorce

Too.

And before

You start screaming

Society is doom

Or end of the world

Is here.

Stop and think

Canada has not disappeared

Or the world ended

Since 2003.

Rather

The opposite is

True.

If one looks

With an open mind

And heart.
