What Makes A Person Hate Another Person
A Chapter by therisa
So subtly You are hidden Behind velvety words So innocent like. Did not see Your poisonous dagger Cloaked behind its facade Approaching my back. Plunging in With the swiftness Of a cobra strike Between the shoulder Blades. For my presence You find offensive Because I am A transsexual lesbian. As the words Of the Depeche Mode song "People Are People" resonates In my mind. Words written So long ago And yet so fresh To me. As if Today is March 12, 1984.

Therisa, now that song is stuck in my head. (which is ok because I kinda have one foot in the 80's) I think people "hate" what they don't understand - and they don't understand because they don't try. You as a transexual lesbian - what does that mean in the parameters of a friendship? What does that mean if you are a family member? How does it change anything - really. That's where I struggle with the judgement calls on lesbians/homosexuals/transexuals/bisexuals and heterosexuals. I have a husband. I am married to him. I plan to stay that way. So all other relationships with men and women - are friendships. Friendships based on respect, mutual likes etc I am not going to step out of that boundary of friendship - so why does it matter? Just talking here. Why hate someone based on gender identity and or sexual identity and orientation? Does that make sense? Just to gun for someone and put a knife in his or her back - its so sad and such a shallow way to live.

Sorry, Tammy, about trapping that DM song in your head, but they're a great live band to see (Music .. read moreSorry, Tammy, about trapping that DM song in your head, but they're a great live band to see (Music For THe Masses Tour, 1988). :)
Sadly, too many people looked at the surface and not at the true person, standing before them. For teh record, I hate having to use labels to describe myself to others, for they limit, whom I am, but society is so fixated on a binary system, when it comes to how one identifies their gender/sexual orientation.
