Undiscovered CountryA Poem by therisaAn old poem from my poetic vault. Written some time around 2007 to 2009.Radio plays in the background; Middle-aged woman in transition; Sits on a bed; Contemplating how her life has changed over the past five years; Amazed; Yet, frightened at the same time.
Her willingness to toss everything aside; Financial security; Job; Family connection, Even, her birth gender; To pursuit her happiness.
Following a dream, which society doesn't truly understands; Facing built-in societal barriers; Born male, always a male; Even, if that means emotional and psychological distress; Marginalized to the edge of the edge; Hoping, she'll disappear.
Oh, it's a fade; He'll grow tired of it, soon; Realizing the errors of his ways; Come to his senses, before its too late; Never realizing, the price has already been paid; In her physical and psychological health.
Breaking away from the pack; Seeking her own path of healing; Travelling through new territory; Facing new and unfamiliar risks; But, offering so many rewards, too; Truly, an undiscovered country. © 2013 therisaAuthor's Note
