Dusk

Dusk

A Poem by therisa

Sunset.

How I dreaded

Your nightly arrival

And the dreams

Which followed

Like the moon does

After the sun.

Transporting me

Back to a time

When Terror reigned

With an iron fist

And I was

The punching bag.

Reliving events

I wanted to forget

Like yesterday news

But could not.

Having suppressed

These traumatic memories

Behind mental barriers

That crumbled

Like finely aged cheese

To my mental touch.

Slowly

These days are

Disappearing for me

Like the polar ice caps

Under global warming.

Although flare-ups

Do happen

During stressful moments

Or triggered by an innocent sight

Sound or smell.

Each day

Without a flashback

Is a special moment

To be savoured

And fully enjoyed.

Pardon me

As I prepare myself

To enjoys tonight's

Sunset.
