For having the courage

To come forth and proclaim

The truth:

You are gay.

Never thought

This day would come

During my lifetime

Or the next.

Given

The homophobic atmosphere

Which permeates

The locker room

Of North American sports.

Hoping

Unlike Jackie Robinson

You won't have to face

Society's hostility

Being a forerunner

For a minority community.

But I know

There will be

Those

Who's hearts

Are filled with hate.

Never realizing

How they are hurting

Themselves

With their toxic comments.

Whatever

Your future may hold

Mr Collins

You'll always have

My admiration.
