A Dirty Little Secret

A Dirty Little Secret

A Poem by therisa

Am

A minority

Within a minority.

Feared

And misunderstood

Driven to the margins

By society

At large.

Even within

The LGBT community

We are treated

Like pariahs

By some.

Who view us

As gender traitors

For wanting to

Correct a genetic mistake.

Yet worse

As the LGBT community

Battled for equal rights

We were callously

Tossed aside

And ran over

By the bus.

Claiming

The moral high ground

Society could not support

The inclusion of trans rights

When voting for Gay

And Lesbian rights.

Thus

Left to beg

For our inclusion

With the rest of Canada

In the Charter of Human Rights.

Like street urchins

Asking random passerby

For a spare penny

Or two.
